What is an Overlay Cabinet Door? An Overlay Cabinet Door is a door that has been mounted on top of the face frame or cabinet carcass. This type of door mounting is typically the standard way of mounting doors in most production cabinetry. There is a greater margin of error in fabrication and installation. A FULL overlay door refers to a door that overhangs the face frame or carcass by 3/4". A HALF overlay door refers to a door that overhangs the face frame or carcass by 3/8". Overlay doors are used with European style cabinet or cabinets that do not have a face frame. The sheet material used in the construction of the cabinets is 3/4" of thick so a FULL overlay door will cover the entire edge of the carcass. In practice a FULL overlay hinge cover 5/8" leaving 1/8" as a reveal and to prevent doors mounted side by side from rubbing when opened. |
