What is a RTF Door? RTF stands for ROUTED THERMAFOIL. It is a cheap massed produced door usually made from MDF. A design is programmed on a CNC machine and then routed into a MDF blank. These design will simulate the look of a raised panel door. After routing a thin layer of colored foil in heated and them formed into place over the MDF to create the finish. You can identify a door that has been faced routed because the corners of the profiles will not be square but will have a small fillet (radius) because the cutter is spinning (like a router) and therefore cannot create a true 90 degree corner. Over time the foil will begin to delaminate from the MDF from age, heat, steam, moisture, etc. |
